About this book
Raymond Francis, a chemist with an MIT degree, once lay in a hospital bed fighting to survive. Doctors identified acute chemical hepatitis, chronic fatigue, multiple chemical sensitivities, and several autoimmune conditions. His symptoms included exhaustion, dizziness, memory loss, a racing heart, diarrhea, numbness, and seizures, among many others. Faced with the likelihood of dying without a change, Francis set out to find his own answers, and his research and eventual recovery convinced him that nearly all illness can be prevented and reversed.
The book lays out his resulting theory of health. In his framework, every disease is a single problem: malfunctioning cells. Only two forces produce it, deficiency and toxicity, and they can act through six pathways: nutrition, toxins, psychology, physical factors, genetics, and medical intervention. Francis uses this model to address basic questions about what health is, what disease is, why people fall ill, and how illness can be avoided or undone. He presents the material as a single concise lesson meant to change how readers think about their bodies.
The book aims to demystify disease by offering a basic grounding in health and illness. It is intended for readers regardless of their current condition, presenting a holistic way of living that aims to help them recover and maintain their wellbeing.
