Never coming back

Emily Kane drives to her sister Carrie's house and finds the front door unlocked and dinner set on the table, but no one is home. Carrie, her husband and their two daughters have vanished without a trace. With the police unable to find any lead, Emily asks David Raker, a missing persons investigator and her former boyfriend, to find them.

Raker's search uncovers a cover-up that stretches back decades, with a trail of dead people left in its wake. The investigation takes him from Las Vegas to a small fishing village in England, and the answers stay out of reach until the very end.

Raker is a recurring character in Tim Weaver's novels, which have been very successful in the UK. This book is the first to bring him to American readers, and it will suit fans of tightly plotted missing persons mysteries.
