No Second Chances

Rio Youers, the author of Lola on Fire, takes readers into the seedy underside of Hollywood in this fast and violent story about longing, payback, and the lengths people will go to get ahead. Luke Kingsley was once on track for the top, but his career and personal life fell apart when his wife, the soul singer Lisa Hayes, vanished, ending a marriage that had played out in public. Most people, including a private investigator who is out for retribution, believe Luke literally got away with murder. He is therefore caught off guard when a stranger who recognizes him and is dazzled by him pulls him back from a dangerous low point.

Kitty Rae left Kentucky for Hollywood with dreams of acting, and she never planned on rescuing a faded actor. Still, she believes in Luke, much as she believes her own break is only one stroke of luck away. For now she works for Johan Fly, a charming, wealthy, and dangerously unstable dealer who supplies drugs to the rich and famous. When Johan learns that Kitty has been stealing from his stock, he swears she will pay.

As Luke tries to help Kitty, he uncovers a network of brutality and corruption, along with a single tantalizing lead about Lisa's disappearance. The two set out across the Mojave Desert to find the missing singer, with Johan close behind, determined to hunt them down. Survival will demand everything Luke and Kitty have in a world where the most ruthless people come out on top.
