No Winner

Eloise Dalton's quiet life is upended when Greg Stone walks back into it. Drawn to him despite herself, she refuses to let the attraction between them take hold. Her heart has already been badly bruised, and she is not willing to risk it again.

Greg is a film director who has only recently returned to New Zealand from California, and he will not be put off. He proposes turning Eloise's first novel into a movie, and she finds it hard to say no. Working side by side with him stirs up painful memories, and she must work out how much of the past she can set aside if she wants any future with him.

Eloise and Greg are married, but they separated five years earlier. Greg believed she had been unfaithful after seeing a kiss between Eloise and a neighbour, and in a rage he raped her. Two years before that, he had left to chase his film career, using their savings and with Eloise's reluctant blessing. When he returned two years later, his career was taking off, and he arrived well dressed and driving a flashy car.

Five years on, Greg is now an established Hollywood director, and he has come back wanting Eloise. Their turbulent history, however, makes it hard for her to trust him.
