Victoria McQueen can locate almost anything that has gone missing, from a lost bracelet to a buried secret, and she has learned that a certain old covered bridge near her home always delivers her exactly where she needs to go. Charles Talent Manx drives a vintage 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith bearing the plate NOS4A2. He offers rides to children, and once they are inside, the car carries them off the ordinary map onto secret routes that end at Christmasland, a carnival-like wonderland of his own invention. The children who ride with him come back changed, turned into creatures as frightening and tireless as the psychic vampire who drives them.

Vic's encounter with Charlie is decades in the past, and she was the only child to get away from him. She has built an adult life on trying to forget that night. Charlie, however, has not put her out of his mind. Back behind the wheel, he sets out for revenge, and he wants something that Vic cannot replace. The conflict pulls her back into a fight over her own child, and as it grows more dangerous, Vic resolves to end Charlie for good, even if it costs her everything. The novel was adapted into an AMC series starring Zachary Quinto, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ashleigh Cummings.

Written by Joe Hill, the son of Stephen King, the book follows his earlier novel Horns in mixing the supernatural with ordinary American life. It is a standalone story for adult readers who enjoy horror shaped by suspense.
