Odds Get Even

Boney, Itchy, and Squeak share the label of the Odd Fellows, a trio who don't quite fit in at school but have stuck together through thick and thin. Their headquarters is a treehouse in Boney's backyard, equipped with five lookout posts and three exits for watching the neighborhood and slipping away when needed. Their chief adversary is Larry Harry, a bully they keep a close eye on.

Enough is enough after Larry pelts them with eggs, roughs them up in gym class, and wrecks their entries at the school's Invention Convention every year. The Odds resolve to finally deal with him, applying their scientific know-how and a local tale about a haunted mill to the task. Their schemes may tie them in knots before they manage to get the upper hand.

Natale Ghent, who wrote No Small Thing and All the Way Home, returns with a comic story about loyalty and payback. The novel recalls the thrill of secret plots and improvised adventures, and suggests that standing apart from the crowd can have its advantages.
