Old Bones Lie

A van carrying two prison officers and a convicted jewel thief disappears, and detectives in St Andrews move quickly to trace it. Their search finds nothing, and they soon learn that the wives of both officers also seem to have left the area. Were the guards helping a criminal escape, or are the people involved innocent?

DI Clare Mackay is running the investigation without her most trusted colleague, DS Chris West, who is related to one of the missing men and cannot take part. A new sergeant works beside her, and an unfamiliar detective chief inspector has joined the case, so Clare must rely heavily on her ability to manage people. The pressure grows when she realises her superior is keeping her away from the heart of the inquiry.

Clare begins to suspect there is something she has not been told. If she must choose between keeping information from a friend and revealing something that could let a culprit go free, which way will she turn?
