Openings

Openings is a collection of thirteen short stories by Lucy Caldwell, winner of the BBC National Short Story Award and author of the collections Multitudes and Intimacies. The stories range widely in setting and situation. They include a passionate affair in Blitz-era London, a highly charged Christmas party in Belfast, and a trip to Marrakech that might create a new family. Each story centers on a brief but recognizable moment of heartbreak or hope, the kind that can change the course of a life. The collection is full of possibility, and its title and themes suggest openings through which characters might step into something new.
