Optical communications

In this revised edition, the solution of Maxwell's equations as applied to planar and cylindrical waveguides has been added to the existing ray- path analysis. Additional material on semiconductor physics is included, as well as discussion of gas lasers and external modulators. New techniques and components featured are quantum-well lasers and sub- carrier multiplex systems. Worked examples appear throughout the text.
