About this book
This omnibus gathers all three volumes of Jenny Hickman's series: The PAN, The HOOK and The CROC. Its tone combines airborne adventure, a streak of science fiction and a heavy dose of emotional strain. Set in the present day, the trilogy is a young adult romance that reworks the familiar Peter Pan story for a modern audience.
Vivienne has never felt rooted since her parents died, and she has moved from one foster home to another. Just days before her eighteenth birthday, when freedom from the system finally seems within reach, she is admitted to hospital with symptoms that doctors cannot explain. Deacon, a mysterious new friend, insists she has an active Nevergene, a diagnosis that sounds far-fetched at first. He warns that she is about to become an unwilling subject in experiments run by the Humanitarian Organization for Order and Knowledge, or H.O.O.K. Her options are stark: flee to Neverland's Kensington Academy, where she will learn to fly, or stay and become a human lab subject. Even Vivienne finds the idea of flying hard to accept.
Joining the P.A.N. would mean leaving her life and foster family behind for good, guarding their secrets while living in the hidden corners of Neverland indefinitely.
The second book begins in the aftermath of Vivienne's capture, when she learns she is destined to become one of the Forgetful P.A.N. The diagnosis makes her doubt her bonds with the people around her and her place in Neverland. On her second recruitment mission she breaks a fundamental rule, and a fellow P.A.N. pays for it with her life. Grief over that death drives Lee Somerfield's expanding band of rebels to answer H.O.O.K.'s violence in kind, reducing the organization to ruins and tearing Neverland apart from within. Amid new romance and old secrets, Vivienne must face what her choices have cost and decide whether an endless life is worth losing every memory.
The final volume suggests that some secrets are better left forgotten. As forgetfulness closes in, Vivienne must make hard decisions about her relationship and her immortality. Deacon can only watch helplessly as the woman he loves slips into forgetting. When secrets from his past come to light, he discovers that someone close to him has betrayed his trust. Meanwhile, the P.A.N. search desperately for a cure for the Forgetful, while H.O.O.K. is prepared to go to deadly lengths to get what it wants. By the end, Neverland will never be the same.
