Paradise

In 1542, sixteen-year-old Marguerite is among the young women her uncle, the Sieur de Roberval, takes along on his expedition to the New World. For her, the voyage offers a way out of her father's strict household. She convinces Pierre, the young man she is forbidden to see, to sail with her, and the two plan to marry once they reach Canada.

Their plan unravels when they are discovered together aboard ship. As punishment, they are marooned on the Isle of Demons, a small, untamed island off the Quebec coast. The journey that was meant to carry them toward a new life becomes a desperate struggle to stay alive.

The novel is based on the real story of Marguerite de La Rocque. It combines adventure, bravery, devotion, and the harsh realities of life in the early colonial era.
