About this book
Ila Arun came to wide public attention with the controversial song Choli Ke Peechhey from Khal Nayak (1993). Years before that, she had already made her name for her work in Rajasthani folk music.
She soon made Mumbai her home, and there she built a career across film, television, music and playback singing, and also worked as a composer and lyricist. Over nearly fifty years she has worked with many well-known names, including actors, directors, singers, music directors and classical and folk singers, all of whom appear as characters in her story. Her deepest passion, however, remains theatre, where she has written several original plays and many adaptations.
This is her first book, an autobiography that follows her life from childhood to the present. It speaks openly of her successes and disappointments in theatre, film and music. Told with sincerity and a touch of humour, it offers a candid look at life onstage and backstage, parde ke peechhey, behind the curtain.
