Pastor Is Missing

One night, after a turbulent session of the Voters Assembly, Pastor Berg phones his wife, Helen, to say he will be spending the night at the church. When he does not get in touch the following day, Helen asks George Harrelson, the congregation's president, to stop by and find out what is going on. That request sets the search in motion.

The story is told through George's eyes as he tries to determine why Pastor Berg has disappeared and where he might be. Along the way, George reads pages from the pastor's diary, which reveal Berg's most private thoughts about his ministry.

The congregation is divided, with some members resisting Berg's leadership and others working alongside him. The book also shows the loving concern the pastor's family expresses while they wait for answers. Although George is the narrator, the book centers on the difficulties Berg faces while leading his congregation.
