Penguin's Egg

Penguin's Egg is a rhyming picture book by Anna Kemp. On a frozen sea, in a storm of whirling snow, a rockhopper penguin egg lies safe and warm in a stony nest while its father keeps watch. Night falls, and Daddy Penguin drifts into such a deep sleep that he does not hear the egg crack.

When he wakes, he is adrift in an unfamiliar world and has to find his way home to his egg. He gets there by hitching rides with kind strangers, traveling by train, helicopter, hot-air balloon and limousine. It is a race against time, and the question is whether he will make it back in time.
