Pirate Utopia

Set in an alternate post-war Europe, the story follows the Futurists, an unruly band of utopian pirates operating from the small Regency of Carnaro along the Adriatic. Their raids on neighboring nations are driven by a revolutionary zeal, and they hold their ground against communists, capitalists and fascists alike, though some of them find fascism not wholly distasteful. The group is run by a circle of brilliant and fervent figures who may be unhinged. Lorenzo Secondari is a decorated veteran of the First World War, a gifted engineer and the commander of Croatian raiders. Frau Piffer is a syndicalist who runs a torpedo factory staffed and managed by women. The Ace of Hearts is a dashing Milanese aristocrat who serves as spymaster and a sharp tactician. The Prophet is a magnetic warrior-poet whose leadership rests on free love and merciless force.

After a show of strength that reaches across the world, the Futurists weigh an alliance with treacherous American conspirators, with global domination as the prize. The book opens with an introduction by Warren Ellis, the writer known for Transmetropolitan and Gun Machine.
