Plaza

Plaza is the work of Yokoyama Yuichi, a neo-manga artist, and it takes its inspiration from Carnaval in Brazil. Across 225 pages, the book piles up a relentless festival of crowds marching, bodies dancing and leaping, volleys of firing, shouting, smashing, and explosions, all rendered in a style that overwhelms the eyes and ears.

First published in Japan in 2019, this English edition comes in an oversize format so the hyper-animated artwork can be seen at full scale. It is avant-garde comics that does not fit neatly into any conventional category.
