Plentiful Darkness

Rooney de Barra is an orphaned twelve-year-old who has to fend for herself. She makes her living by gathering moonlight from the evening sky with a lunar mirror, a rare and especially magical object. She spends her days keeping away from a gang of rough boys, and from an even more frightening threat: something that has been snatching children in the night.

Her routine falls apart when Trick Aidan, the worst of those boys, steals the mirror. Rooney will do whatever it takes to get it back. The chase leads her into a pool of darkness that swallows both Trick and the mirror, and from there into the Plentiful Darkness, a strange realm with no sky and no stars.

Rooney and Trick are unlikely allies who would rather not be. Together they must confront the magician behind the disappearances and figure out the magic that has trapped the children of Warybone.

Fans of Serafina and the Black Cloak may find a similar mood here. The story is eerie and atmospheric, with a magic that feels both wondrous and unsettling.
