Poisoned

Sophie's story begins with a ride into the woods alongside the queen's huntsman, a journey that ends with her heart being stolen. The betrayal is not entirely unexpected. For years Sophie has heard whispers that a kind and naive princess would make a poor ruler, and she has come to accept those cruel judgments as true, the kind of harsh talk used to hold young women back from gaining influence and strength.

Seven strangers with secrets of their own help Sophie stay alive. As she begins to suspect that the jealous queen is not the real danger, she must confront a far more frightening foe. Along the way the novel explores self-doubt, the pressure placed on girls who want power, and the idea that kindness can be a source of strength, even against dark magic.

This retelling of Snow White is aimed at teen readers who enjoy reimagined fairy tales with a strong heroine.
