Post Corona
About This Book
Scott Galloway, a professor at NYU's Stern School of Business and a bestselling author, looks at what the COVID-19 pandemic has done to the economy and to American life, and asks who comes out ahead and who gets left behind. The virus moved work into bedrooms, set generations against each other, and deepened the divides between rich and poor, left and right, and those who wore masks and those who refused. The damage and the windfalls were very uneven. Peloton, Zoom and Amazon were buried in demand almost overnight, while restaurants, travel, hospitality and live entertainment fought just to survive. Galloway's central argument is that the pandemic did not create a new world so much as speed up changes that were already underway. The biggest technology companies are positioned to grow even more dominant, and higher education faces a harder question about what it offers when students and teachers cannot share a room. The book also turns to government and society, arguing that the crisis exposed a growing gap between the idea of America as a land of opportunity and the reality of declining wellbeing for many of its people. Galloway pairs his business analysis with humor, a brash voice and a streak of righteous anger. His message is both a warning and a reason for hope. As he puts it, the shape of our society was the result of choices, which means that no trend is permanent and any of them can be made worse or put right.
