Proven Guilty

Harry Dresden is a wizard who hires out his services in Chicago, and the White Council of Wizards has never been fond of him. They think he is brash and undisciplined. Their feelings matter less than their numbers, though. A war with the vampires has cost the Council many of its members, so they draft Harry as a Warden and send him to look into reports of dark magic in his own city.

He is still getting used to the job when trouble comes to his door from another direction. The daughter of an old friend, now grown up, tattooed and pierced, has landed in serious difficulty. Her boyfriend is the only suspect in an attack that looks like something out of a horror movie, and it appears to have a supernatural cause.

Behind it all are malevolent creatures that feed on fear, and they are loose in Chicago. Harry takes it on with the help of his loyal dog and Bob, a talking skull with opinions of his own. Proven Guilty is the eighth book in the Dresden Files series.
