About this book
Many healing books for queer, trans and gender-expansive readers talk about the body without giving you much to do with it. This one is built around practice. Wednesdae Reim Ifrach, a registered expressive arts therapist and licensed professional counselor, offers somatic and creative tools meant to help you feel safer in your body, tell your own story in your own terms, and keep your connections to other people alive.
The methods come from two fields. From somatic therapy there are grounding, breath work, orientation and gentle movement. From expressive arts there are collage, drawing, clay, movement, music and voice. All of it sits inside a harm-reduction frame: you set the pace, you choose what to try and what to skip, and you make safety plans before you need them. Case vignettes and simple rituals show how people have used the work to move out of shutdown or constant alertness and toward steadier, more connected living.
The book moves in three stages. First you learn to notice and settle your nervous system. Then you turn what you feel into art and narrative. Finally you build rituals and relationships that help the changes hold. It speaks to people dealing with dysphoria, eating disorder recovery, chronic stress or a dysregulated nervous system.
You will find body check-ins for naming sensations and needs, breath and movement exercises that take one to ten minutes, and prompts that draw on sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. Art invitations come with step-by-step guidance and safety notes. Opt-in and opt-out menus, pacing advice and crisis planning keep the work manageable, and community practices such as altar-making, release-writing and witness circles help anchor change in everyday life. You can use it alone or alongside a therapist.
