Queerceañera

Joaquin Zoido is out and proud, and his dad and sister, Carmen, are fully behind him. What he did not expect was for them to throw him a queerceañera, a coming out party in his honor. As the family talks tastings and venues and RSVP texts keep arriving, everyone wants to know who will be his chambelán.

Joaquin is trying hard not to think about whether his mom will show up, or whether she has swapped him for her favorite godson, Felix. Felix is the boy who made Joaquin realize he was gay, and his first kiss.

Then an offhand lie spirals into a rumor in the family group chat. Soon every Zoido from Texas to Mexico believes Felix is not only the chambelán but also Joaquin's new boyfriend. To dodge the pity that an awkward breakup would bring, Joaquin and Felix agree to stay fake boyfriends until the party.

As the big day nears and old feelings stir again, Joaquin has to decide whether a picture-perfect queerceañera with a pretend boyfriend is worth losing the chance at something real. This is a funny, telenovela-style romantic comedy full of family drama and mix-ups.
