Rachel

Rachel Carson paid close attention to the natural world from an early age. Growing up, she spent most of her time outdoors, wandering and investigating, driven by a constant urge to understand how everything worked.

As an adult, she turned that devotion to nature into writing, producing books about the subjects she cared about most. One of them, Silent Spring, went on to transform how people thought about the planet.

Amy Ehrlich tells this life story for young readers, with Wendell Minor's paintings accompanying the text. The narrative explores the force that words can carry, the difference a single person can make, and the value of staying true to one's inner calling. An epilogue closes the book with a closer look at Carson's work and life.
