Ray's Big Day

Ray is a little ray of light who launches from the sun into outer space, sure that she is headed for adventure. What she did not expect was how far apart everything in space turns out to be. As the long trip stretches on, she has to find a way to pass the time, and the question is whether she can tap her creativity to make something new.

Josh Lewis tells her story through an optimistic, lovable heroine and comic illustrations. Ray's trip through the solar system and beyond makes the vastness of space easier for children to grasp. It also introduces basic ideas about the solar system, the universe and the speed of light.

Backmatter at the end of the book adds an educational layer, showing how far and how fast light travels through our solar system. Scholastic suggests it for readers who enjoyed Stacy McAnulty's Earth! My First 4.54 Billion Years and Oliver Jeffers' Here We Are.
