About this book
For twelve years Brian Grant played professional basketball at the sport's top level, and he might have expected his working life to be over once he retired. Shortly after leaving the NBA, though, he learned he had Young-Onset Parkinson's disease. The diagnosis brought a struggle bigger than anything he had dealt with on the court, and it also pushed him to rethink what matters most.
Written with basketball writer Ric Bucher, the memoir follows Grant through Sacramento, Portland, Miami and other stops in his career. It recounts the moment on a flight, thirty thousand feet in the air, when he figured out what was causing the shaking in his hand. It also describes a climb up Mount St. Helens with five other people living with Parkinson's, where he tested himself again and outperformed what others expected of him.
Grant covers his life before, during and after his years in the NBA. His voice is frank and personal, and it is both tender and funny.
