Red Queen
About This Book
Antonia Scott is the daughter of a British diplomat and a Spanish mother, and she has an exceptional gift for reconstructing how a crime happened and working out who committed it. After a personal tragedy, though, she has refused all casework and stopped leaving her apartment. Jon Gutierrez, a police officer in Bilbao, has been disgraced, suspended, and is about to face criminal charges. A secretive organization that operates in the shadows and steers sensitive criminal investigations offers him a way to rebuild his career. His task is to persuade Antonia to end her withdrawal, then protect her while she helps investigate a new and frightening case. That case starts with a grim, ritualistic killing: the body of a teenage boy from a wealthy family is found completely drained of blood. The murder is only the first event. A senior executive and daughter of one of Spain's richest men is kidnapped, and the abduction is linked to the earlier death. Behind both crimes stands a hidden mastermind with darker plans, and Antonia may be the only one who can see the connections and outwit the killer before more lives are lost. This is Book 1 of 2.
