Reformation
About This Book
Reformation is set in medieval Europe, in a time of turmoil and religious upheaval, where life hangs by a thread and faith and fear are driven by the ambitions of powerful men. A village in West Saxony witnesses a brutal event that sends shockwaves through its inhabitants' lives.
After an attack on an abbey, Sister Mary sets out on a dangerous journey through the forest, haunted by the memory of Brother Wilhem's gruesome fate. She seeks refuge and help at a nearby monastery. Meanwhile, in a tavern, soldiers celebrate their pay, unaware of what their actions will bring. One of them, Claus, boasts that he serves God's will and shows no concern for the lives he has taken, but an unexpected revelation is coming that will eventually catch up with him.
As the story develops, it weaves together the lives of soldiers, villagers, the nobility and the church, and secrets surface that reveal unexpected connections and hidden motives. Hette, the tavern keeper, pleads for absolution to ease the guilt of a young woman named Gezel, whose life bears the weight of her father's tragic fate.
Nathan Driscoll's novel explores faith, morality and the consequences of territorial claims in an age of uncertainty and change. It also deals with the collision of beliefs, the search for redemption and the impact of choices made in the shadows.
