About this book
Erik de Haan proposes a different way of thinking about coaching, one that places the relationship at the center and views it from the coachee's side. He draws on long-standing traditions in the field as well as recent studies, and he distills them into ten commandments for executive coaches who want to refine their work. Each commandment is supported by quantitative research, which the book presents as evidence rather than opinion.
The book opens with an overview of the coaching profession and its recent developments. Part two reports new quantitative and qualitative research into the effects of coaching and how clients experience it. Part three examines what makes a good coach in practice and the methods used to check that coaches understand their profession. Further chapters cover training, accreditation, supervision and recommended reading.
The book is aimed at coaching practitioners, particularly executive coaches, and at anyone who wants a grounded account of what coaching is and how it works.
