Kate Stone is an assistant district attorney who took an oath to uphold the law. After the biggest defeat of her career, she starts to wonder whether justice sometimes has to be taken into her own hands. She spent months building a case against Max James, a serial assaulter of women, and believed it was one she should win. A corrupt judge let him walk free instead.

When James confronts her outside the courthouse, Kate punches him and he goes down hard. The footage spreads across television news, and her boss gives her a choice: attend anger management meetings or give up the job she lives for.

Reluctantly, Kate goes to her first meeting and finds a group of people who have all been failed by the justice system. Their aim is to right wrongs by any means necessary, even outside the law. Unsure whom she can trust among these self-styled renegades, Kate starts digging into Max James's hidden life. What she finds leads to a startling new turn in the case and makes her the prime suspect.
