Resurrectionist

Matthew Hawkwood is a Bow Street Runner who is also a soldier, a spy and a man with a romantic streak, and his toughness makes him as formidable as the criminals he hunts. In this follow-up to Ratcatcher, he is back in the Regency city's most unwelcome places: its graveyards and the grim, sinister wards of Bedlam, London's most notorious lunatic asylum.

Bodies are disappearing across the capital, some dead and some still living. Resurrection men, hired by the city's surgeons to dig up corpses, are also making a few of their own.

The most alarming development is the escape from Bedlam of an unusual prisoner, Colonel Titus Xavier Hyde. He is an obsessive and gifted surgeon whose madness is matched only by his sharp, dark intelligence, and he is determined to prove a point. That means the gravediggers will soon have a great deal more work to do.
