About this book
Ryan Shay has just been named captain of Chicago's NBA team, the Devils, and the last thing he wants is his sister's closest friend, Indy Ivers, moving into his apartment. Indy is messy, emotional, and far too tempting for a man who keeps everyone at arm's length. When the team's general manager openly doubts that Ryan is ready for the role, describing him as a closed-off loner who never balances his life, Ryan hits on a plan: he will present Indy as his girlfriend. The pretense, however, starts to feel uncomfortably real.
Indy never expected to share a home with her best friend's older brother, an NBA star. Being asked to play the devoted partner who turned him into a warm, easygoing man is even more absurd, since she knows he is nothing of the sort. He guards his space and trusts very few people. Indy has her own reason for the arrangement. Every one of her childhood friends will be at an upcoming wedding, including her ex-boyfriend, and she plans to bring the celebrity her ex has always idolized as her date.
The lines between real and fake blur quickly, and both of them struggle to tell which is which. Falling for Ryan was never part of the agreement, especially since he insists he does not believe in love. Indy is a romantic at heart and keeps hoping he will change, yet she begins to wonder whether living under his roof was a mistake. The story is told in alternating sections from Ryan's and Indy's points of view.
