River Lady

Wesley Stanford, a plantation owner, has only a faint memory of Leah Simmons, a poor young girl who once admired him from a distance. A chance meeting on the Virginia waterfront changes both of their lives, and Wesley finds himself married to her against his will. He had planned to start over on the Kentucky frontier and leave his new wife behind. Instead, he finds Leah to be spirited, dignified, and courageous, and he begins to suspect that she may be essential to him.
