Rose/House

Every house designed by the architect Basit Deniau was said to be haunted, and Rose House, his last great work, built in the remote Mojave desert, may be the most haunted of all. Many homes have an artificial intelligence built into them. Rose House is different, because the house itself is an artificial intelligence, a thinking, non-human being that fills every corner of the building.

Detective Maritza Smith gets a call from Rose House and learns that there is a dead body behind its sealed door. Everyone in town knows the house is haunted. They also know that Basit died more than a year ago and that only his former protege, Dr. Selene Gisil, is allowed inside. Yet Selene was out of the country when Rose House reported the death.

Who is the dead person, how did they get in, and who or what killed them? The answers lie somewhere in the maze of halls inside the house. Even if Maritza can enter, there is no guarantee she will be able to get out again. Rose/House is a science fiction gothic thriller by Arkady Martine, the Hugo Award-winning author of A Memory Called Empire.
