About this book
Donald W. Hancock sees America at a dangerous crossroads, with divided families, institutions that seem captured, and collapsing trust in government and the media. Writing as a centrist who leans slightly right but wants to ask questions honestly, he wonders whether this polarization and institutional decay is entirely accidental.
His argument is that patient foreign adversaries may have been working quietly to weaken the United States from within. He points to Russia's approach of ideological subversion and to China's doctrine of unrestricted warfare. In his account, these strategies operate through schools, media, government, culture and the borders, and require no invasion, only patience.
Rot From Within sets out what Hancock calls a recipe for this internal subversion: how minds are shaped, information is controlled, divisions are amplified, borders are diluted and protective institutions are gradually undermined. He draws on Yuri Bezmenov's warnings, the Chinese military text Unrestricted Warfare, and trends he observes from 2023 to 2026.
Hancock presents the book as a non-partisan warning rather than a conspiracy theory, written by someone who still believes the country is worth saving. He also offers what he considers realistic paths to renewal, and asks whether it is already too late.
