Rufus M.

Rufus Moffat, the youngest of the Moffat children, tackles problems in his own fashion. He wants to borrow books from the library, so he teaches himself to write well before he has learned to read. When food runs short, he plants a batch of his own "Rufus beans", which sprout even though he digs them up every day to check on them.

Rufus also keeps company with friends that most people never notice. In town he discovers an invisible pianist, borrows a flying horse for a single day, and wanders about with the Cardboard Boy, who is at once his closest friend and his rival.

Rufus M. is the third book in Eleanor Estes's Moffats series. This edition is part of the Odyssey/Harcourt Young Classics line.
