Salvation Lost

In the twenty-third century, Earth is about as close to a utopia as it has ever been. Then the aliens people had come to trust turn out to be nothing of the kind. Salvation Lost, the second book in Peter F. Hamilton's Salvation Sequence, picks up as humanity realizes it is facing one of the gravest dangers in its history.

The Olyix are driven by fanatical religious conviction. They intend to gather every living being into their own vision of God, whether or not anyone wants to go. Humanity has no interest in surrendering, and it has no interest in hiding either.

People respond with all the ingenuity and stubbornness they can muster, and their aim is nothing less than destroying an enemy that seems unbeatable. That may mean fighting a war measured in far more than a single lifetime. But the universe is unpredictable, and even the most carefully laid plans can run into things no one saw coming.
