Sarah

Cherry Vanilla is twelve, blond-curled and fond of short leather skirts and make-up. He has one ambition: to become the most celebrated 'lot lizard', the name for a truck stop prostitute, in the whole trade. His idol, his rival and his mother are all the same person, Sarah, and he is determined to match her and be more of a woman than most.

To get there, he takes on Sarah's name and her sex and sets off into the strange and hazardous corners of the West Virginia backcountry. On the road he meets menacing pimps, Jack-a-lopes that restore a person's luck, and superstitious prostitutes who mistake him for a saint. He also meets a crowd of odd and beautiful outcasts who fill his unusual, heartbreaking world.

Sarah is a novel by JT LeRoy, a literary persona that was later revealed to have been created by the writer Laura Albert.
