Saving Sunshine

This graphic novel, from Saadia Faruqi and Shazleen Khan, follows two Muslim American siblings who must learn to stop fighting and support each other in a world that can be unkind. Being a kid is hard enough, and the twins face extra struggles: classmates tease one of them over a funny-sounding name and the other over wearing a hijab. Zara and Zeeshan, however, are at odds most of the time, and neither can stand the other.

Their feud reaches new heights of chaos on a family trip to Florida, with constant bickering, shoving, and insults. Their parents hand them the worst punishment they can imagine: spending time with each other. Soon after, the twins find a sick turtle, which gives them a chance to work as a team, if they can finally set their differences aside.
