Scam Goddess
About This Book
Laci Mosley is a comedian and actress and the host of the award-winning podcast Scam Goddess. In this essay collection she looks at the frauds, cons and schemes that run through the world and at how a scammer's mindset has shaped her own life, including her upbringing, career, friendships and love life. She says she knew early on that her path would involve scams, cons and small-time schemes, the kind that hurt no one and never got her into trouble but got her where she needed to go. Her view is that everyone is a scammer and everything is a scam, some people are just better at it, and that the system was not built for people like her. Scamming, she argues, taught her to navigate an unfair world while looking out for herself. The essays follow her from a religious childhood in rural Texas, through a stint as a bartender in a city at a place that may have been a drug front, to talking her way past the gatekeepers of Hollywood. Along the way she retells the true-crime scam stories that inspired her. Whether the scam comes from the beauty industry, capitalism or the people we date, Mosley says we are all being taken in some way, and she shares what she has learned about turning the tables and coming out ahead.
