Scholastic Learning Express Level 1

This first-grade workbook gives young learners structured subtraction practice that works equally well at the kitchen table or in an after-school enrichment class. Pupils work through subtraction within 20, then move on to taking away one- and two-digit numbers, both with and without regrouping, and finally to short word problems that require subtraction.

Along the way, periodic quick assessments let an adult check whether a child has grasped each topic before moving forward. Stickers offer small rewards for effort, and a completion certificate marks the finish of the book, giving the child a clear sense of accomplishment.

The pages are designed for children in Grade 1 who need independent practice, and the layout is meant to keep the work engaging so it feels less like a chore.
