Scorch

This entry in the series follows the extended Steel family and the people around them, some who wish the family well and others who mean them harm. The setting is the eastern slope of the Colorado Rockies. Brock Steel and Rory Pike each carry a mystery of their own, and while some of those puzzles get answers here, new twists arise along the way.

Rory Pike nearly lost her father to a heart attack, and the scare has left her convinced that life is fragile. Once he is recovering, she seizes the chance to pursue what she has been wanting. She joins her brother's rock band on a short tour. Fronting the group is not her true calling, but at least she gets to sing, and the work keeps her from dwelling on her boyfriend's investigations in Wyoming.

Brock misses Rory badly but cannot leave his post. Serious crimes, including grave felonies, have been committed on Steel land, and he is determined that his family will not be blamed for someone else's wrongdoing. He pieces together part of a baffling chain of events, yet many questions stay open. With the family facing a threat it cannot see, Brock is ready to go to any lengths to protect them and to build a future with Rory.
