Shattered Paths
About This Book
Shattered Paths is the first book in a trilogy about three children, Oliver, Emma and Jack, whose lives become intertwined as each makes their way through the foster care system. This debut novel centers on Jack, whose world is marked by neglect, abandonment and a constant search for connection. His story is told with raw emotion and honesty, and it exposes some of the darkest sides of the care system. Readers follow his pain, his brief moments of hope and the strong bonds he forms with others who share his journey. Daniel Rolph draws on his own difficult experience of the UK care system. He was adopted and later returned to foster care as a young person, and the novel reflects both his own experiences and those of many others in similar situations. Through the story, he hopes to bring the often unseen realities of foster care, child abuse and neglect to light, raising awareness and encouraging empathy. The book is intended as a call for understanding and change, and it explores the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
