Shirley

Over the course of a single year at Bennington College in 1964, an unmarried young couple finds themselves drawn into the daily life of Shirley Jackson, the author of "The Lottery," and her husband. The newcomers watch the household closely, and the closeness that develops slowly brings unease to the surface. Set in a small campus community where ambition and rivalry run beneath polite conversation, the story is told in a tense, watchful tone. Readers who enjoy suspense rooted in ordinary domestic life, and those curious about the real Jackson, will find much to hold their attention.
