Shoes

Shoes is a picture book in rhyme that celebrates footwear of every kind, from shoes to skate in and skip in to shoes made for turning a double flip. Elizabeth Winthrop's bouncy verse is aimed at preschool and kindergarten children, and the topic is one they tend to love. William Joyce illustrated the book with lively, warmly colored artwork. He is also known for George Shrinks, the Guardians and Dinosaur Bob series, and The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, which was adapted as an Academy Award-winning short film. Shoes was chosen as a Reading Rainbow selection. It works well for story hours and for classroom units on clothing and getting dressed. Parents and teachers who are helping children learn to tie their shoes will also find it a useful book to share.
