About this book
John Frankel, a detective with the NYPD, becomes the chief suspect when his former wife is found dead on the floor of his Manhattan studio apartment. The case against him grows as evidence links his gun to the fatal bullet and investigators uncover a motive. Frankel goes on the run, and his colleagues become more certain of his guilt.
Not everyone accepts that verdict. Rachel Grant, Frankel's fiancée, and her father Austin, a former Scotland Yard inspector, are sure he is innocent. The police have been ordered to use whatever force is necessary against a man they consider dangerous, so the pair must act quickly before the manhunt turns violent.
Their search for Frankel carries them across the United States, from the beaches of Hawaii to a midnight meeting in a cemetery in northern Maine. As the cat-and-mouse pursuit unfolds, it uncovers a tangled murder plot with several victims, and the answer stays hidden until the final pages.
Scott Shepherd, a showrunner and screenwriter whose television credits include The Equalizer, The Dead Zone and Miami Vice, wrote this novel as his second mystery.
