Silver Under Nightfall

Remy Pendergast has a complicated place in the world. He is the only son of the Duke of Valenbonne, though his father may not feel especially proud of that, and he hunts rogue vampires as one of the kingdom's elite bounty hunters. Among his fellow Reapers, however, he is an outsider. Whispers about his mother, who ran off with a vampire, have fueled a rumor that Remy carries vampire blood himself. Aluria tolerates him only grudgingly, while his father molds him into a tool meant to serve the realm, whatever the cost.

Trouble arrives when a new and frightening kind of vampire is spotted beyond the city walls. Remy plans to track it down alone, but he crosses paths with Xiaodan Song, a vampire heiress whose kindness surprises him, and her fiancé, the vampire lord Zidan Malekh, whose arrogance is hard to stomach. The pair may know how to destroy these creatures, though being seen with them could damage Remy's standing. Soon he is invited to join them in uncovering the truth behind Rot, a mutating virus spreading through the kingdom. He must decide whether to accept, a choice he is sure he will come to regret.

Their journey brings danger and hardship, and Remy grows attached to the couple in ways that are tangled and hard to sort out. Along the way he begins to doubt what he has always believed about vampires, and about the history of his own family. As Rot continues to spread, he must choose between his father and the kingdom he was raised to protect, and the vampires who may ultimately prove to be his undoing.
