Simplicity in Preaching

Written by J. C. Ryle, a 19th-century Anglican bishop of Liverpool, this short work runs to about two dozen pages and addresses how a preacher can keep sermons plain. In that space, Ryle offers considerable practical experience and sound judgment, more than many lengthy treatises on the subject provide.

The book follows the principle it teaches. Ryle's prose is simple and direct throughout, so the reader sees the advice applied on the page as well as described.

For its length, the book is useful well out of proportion to its size.
