Slugfest

Yash is the best athlete at Robinette Middle School, so good that he already plays on the high school's JV teams. Then he discovers that all those JV practices have kept him from earning the state-mandated eighth-grade PE credit. To graduate, he must take Physical Education Equivalency, or PEE, a summer school course better known as Slugfest.

The class is a mixed bag. Kaden is an academic star who is hopeless at anything physical. The twins Sarah and Stuart are too busy trying to destroy each other to listen to a word in class. Jesse is a notorious prankster, Arabella protests nearly everything, including mandatory PE, and Cleo is a natural athlete who has given up sports. Their coach is Mrs. Tamara Finnerty, a retired teacher whose idea of physical education seems stuck at preschool level. Yash does not mind, as long as he gets his credit.

Trouble builds on two fronts. One of his fellow "slugs" is determined to expose a scandal that could make the whole summer pointless, and Yash is at risk of losing his star spot on the JV football team. So he recruits his fellow PE rejects to train with him. Spending a summer with the most hapless group in school turns out to be full of surprises, and their teacher may be hiding the biggest one of all.
