Modern CNC machines are growing more precise, more automated and more intelligent, and this book examines how monitoring systems drive that progress. It sets out the technical groundwork of machining monitoring, then moves toward designing and building smart monitoring systems, with a particular focus on tool condition monitoring.

The first part covers the basics of machining systems. It looks at how machining processes can be modeled, reviews the mathematics behind condition monitoring, and presents a framework for tool condition monitoring from a machine learning perspective.

The second part puts these theories into practice. It explains how sensor signals are processed and how useful features are extracted from them, and it examines the cyber-physical system at the heart of a smart machining system.
