SOMEONE WE KNOW*

Neighbors who think they know each other may be in for a shock. The story opens with a letter from a mother confessing that her son broke into a home while its owners were away. In an upstate New York community of tidy streets and comfortable houses, an unidentified teenager has been slipping into residences and hacking into their computers, collecting private information and possibly passing some of it along.

After two more anonymous letters arrive, rumors spread through the neighborhood and distrust grows. The situation becomes far more serious when a woman who lives nearby is found dead. Residents begin asking who committed the crime, who is holding back the truth, and what each person will do to keep their own secrets buried.

The novel shows that the adults in this community are no more open than the intruder. Husbands, wives and grown children all have something to conceal, and the book follows how those hidden matters come to light.
